Colas Company Involved: The Miller Group
Location: Greater Toronto Area, Ontario
Client: Ontario Ministry of Transportation
Highway 401, a vital artery in Toronto and North America's busiest highway, is the main commercial route connecting Toronto to Montreal, Southern Ontario, and the United States. Handling over 500,000 vehicles a day in its busiest stretches and facing harsh winter conditions, high-quality maintenance is crucial. Colas company The Miller Group has signed a six-year contract to refurbish this critical transportation link.
The contract involves completely resurfacing a 10km stretch of pavement, ensuring safer and smoother travel for everyone. By sourcing materials directly from its own quarries and testing facilities, Miller’s teams ensure high quality and consistency, while maintaining control over the supply chain. This major operation keeps teams busy around the clock, with most work occurring at night to minimize disruptions for commuters. Once finished, the refurbishment will extend the highway's life span to ensure it continues to be a vital transportation link for millions of Canadians.
